Jan C. Scheurer
Hey – I`m a production designer who believes the best sets aren’t just built, they’re felt. My superpower? Turning limited budgets into high-impact worlds, and understanding every department on set because I’ve probably worked in it at some point. Set Constructions? Check. Props? Of course. Costumes? Occasionally. Food styling? When the script calls for it. Set decoration? Always. I’m the kind of universalist who sees the bigger picture – the social dynamics, the historical layers, the cultural subtext – and then asks: How can we make this even more interesting?
My approach is rooted in a deep love for visual experimentation and a healthy skepticism for the status quo. I don’t just create spaces; I craft atmospheres that tell stories, evoke emotions, and pull audiences into the narrative. Whether it’s a claustrophobic indie set or a sleek commercial environment, my work is defined by materiality, light, and depth – and the belief that every detail should serve the story, not just the shot.
I thrive in collaborative chaos, where I can problem-solve on the fly, bridge gaps between departments, and keep the creative vision intact. And yes, I’ve learned that sometimes the best prop is a well-placed question.
When I’m not on set, you’ll find me thinking about the next project, tinkering with textures, or probably overanalyzing the cultural subtext of a random object. Because to me, production design isn’t just about building a space – it’s about telling a story through it.
